We're very serious about that

The Loqed Smart Lock was built with security as a requirement from the start. Nobody, not even Loqed employees, are able to control your smart lock. If you’re a security expert, read on to find out more about Loqed’s security.

How does InstantOpen work?

The Loqed Smart Lock uses InstantOpen technology that ensures maximum security, while letting you enjoy the ease of entering with a touch in a split second. InstantOpen consists of a two-step unlocking system:

  1. Auto unlock: When you are approaching your door (~10 meter), InstantOpen will party unlock your door. The door will stay closed. If you have a handle on the outside of your door, this step is disabled.
  2. Touch to Open: Only when you are right in front of the door (~3 meter), outside (not inside) and touch the Loqed front module, the Loqed Smart Lock will open the door for you.

This unique system is possible because the Loqed Smart Lock has an outside module, which features a secondary antenna.

More secure than ‘auto unlock’ of other smart locks

Conventional smart locks can unwantedly open your door, because they open your door as soon as a Bluetooth phone connects. For example, when you are parking your car, or enter through another door of your house, conventional smart locks will fully unlock and open your door – while you’re not there.

The Loqed Smart Lock always makes sure you are within 3 meters of distance of your door, outside, and you have to touch the Loqed Front module. Only then the Loqed Smart Lock will open your door. That way, the Loqed Smart Lock guarantees your door will stay securely closed until you are right in front of it.

Protection against relay-attacks

Recently was in the news that cars are being stolen bij amplifying the wireless signal of the car key. This made it look like if the key was close to the car, instead of in the house. The Loqed Smart Lock is protected against these ‘relay attacks’. We do this by using geofencing and a timer. See for more information ‘How does InstantOpen work’.

For our Dutch customers, we have verified that the mayor insurance companies cover theft from your house, even if there are no signs of a break-in. Please switch to the Dutch version of this website (click the flag on the top of this page) to find out more.

256-bit end-to-end encryption

Loqed uses 256-bit end-to-end encryption, as used by banks, for communication to the lock. The encryption key is only stored in the secure key-chain of your phone and on the Loqed Smart Lock itself. This means that if you lose your phone, forget your account password and forget your personal access code at the same time, we simply cannot open the door for you.

Encryption keys sent to newly added users are not sent over the Loqed servers, but by a messaging application (e.g. e-mail, Whatsapp) of your choice. This ensures that even Loqed employees can never retrieve the encryption keys. New users need to change their encryption key after receiving it for the first time (the Loqed app does this automatically), to prevent user impersonating by the administrator. Finally, encryption keys are renewed on a regular basis, so that brute force attacks are pointless.

Remote blocking of lost phones/codes

Lost your phone or personal access code? Simply remotely block access from any internet browser.

Key copying

Unlike traditional keys, the digital key cannot be easily copied. The Loqed Smart Lock uses a unique key per user.

The loqed Smart Lock is currently being tested by SKG-IKOB (the national security testing institute of The Netherlands) and we expect to receive the highest security rating. The testing procedure will however take time, especially because also the production quality control has to be checked.

A more secure cylinder

Traditional cylinder locks are vulnerable to different kinds of attacks by burglars. The Loqed Smart Lock has solved these issues once and for all: we removed the vulnerable keyhole from the lock completely. To make sure you can always access without a metal backup key or when the lock is out of power, it features code access and an emergency power connector.
